Sports Massage

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is done usually in the acute phase of muscle tightness.

  • Directly after a sporting event
  • General release of chronic fatigued muscles and soft tissues.
  • These sessions may take at least 45 minutes and is a well advised form of preparation for any sporting event.

Strapping

Strapping

Strapping can be done with different forms of plaster, also for muscular and also non-muscular structures:
Kinesio strapping

  • Muscles: Kinesio strapping is usually done to help mobilise the muscles and not immobilise. It improves functionality of the specific muscle after treatment to aid during the sporting event and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Posture: When Kinesio strapping is used over fascia or non-contractile structures, it helps to improve postural stamina, reduces muscle fatigue, as well as improving better muscle function underneath the superficial layers being strapped. Ideal for office clients.

General strapping to immobilise or support joints

  • Joints are supported and muscles are protected with this type of strapping
  • It can be done prior to a sporting event, or for general support during activities.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry needling as a treatment option for Physiotherapists, is of great help to:

  • Release trigger points or overactive fibres within the muscle tissues
  • Reduce the symptoms of chronic pain by addressing the soft tissues directly associated with pain.
  • Dry needling is often used together with other treatment modalities to aid the relief of soft tissue inflammation associated with chronic pain conditions.

Sports as well as chronic pain clients may benefit greatly from this treatment modality.

Cupping

Cupping

Cupping has been in practice since ancient times. It is a therapy in which glass cups are applied to painful areas of the body, and a partial vacuum is then created.
This technique then improves localised blood circulation of these soft tissues, which:

  • Helps relieve pain
  • Reduce the build-up of toxins in soft-tissues
  • Speed up soft tissue recovery after injury
  • Cupping massage is often used with sports related injuries

Cupping is a versatile technique, which can be very beneficial for the relief of both acute and chronic soft tissue inflammation and dysfunction.
